Ontology-based Embedded Services (OBES)
The realisation of Organic Computing principles faces the problem of pouring human knowledge in a machine-understandable way to be available for the autonomic elements of the system. Moreover, these autonomic elements are supposed to be responsible to find out new possible configurations, in case the actual one is, for any reason, not more available. Each new configuration has to be in agreement with designers' and users' vision about a true behaviour and a better performance of the system. The Ontology-based Embedded Services are designed as a solution for these questions. They use an ontology-based description of the autonomic elements and a logic inference mechanism in order to discover available and acceptable configurations. In a second step, numeric methods, known from the field of MultiCriteria Decision Making (MCDM), capability of choosing the best solution according to the designer's vision.
