How to utilize Open Content for higher-layered applications?

Open Data and User Generated Content are ongoing trends in the “Social Semantic Web” (s2w) (Wikipedia, Freebase, Flickr, Twine, a.o.). Generic concepts and how-tos for higher-layered reuse of the arbitrary information overload for agile knowledge transfer and learning - mentioning the Internet of Services (IoS) - are not covered very well yet.

For further, directed use of distributed services and sources, inquiry, interlinking, analysis, machine- and human-interpretable representation are as essential as lightweight user-oriented interoperation and competency in handling.

Currently we are developing online knowledge games (following RIA and REST paradigms) as prototypically frontend to embed the Web of Data in learning scenarios.

qKAI application framework

Available open-source components and services for selection, extraction and semantically tasks have to be combined and tweaked with user interaction in an extensible framework – the qKAI-framework - to integrate various sources for knowledge engineering and transfer. qKAI combines Web 2.0, Semantic Web and SOA paradigms to apply and enable the Internet of Services for higher level, user-oriented applications with open access.

Programming concepts make use of JAVA, server-side techniques (Servlets, JSP), RESTful web services and Rich Clients (Flash, Flex3, Actionscript3), handling of xml-related formats (XML, XHTML) and further W3C (Semantic Web) Standards (SPARQL, RDF, OWL, Linked Data). The hybrid data layer also deals with SQL.
